Artist Profile: Zohra Opoku

Meet Zohra Opoku an artist of German and Ghanaian decent based in Accra. Hails from the field of fashion and photography. She holds an MA (2003) in fashion from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Opoku was introduced to the art world through the Kunstlerhaus Stuttgart, where she talked about her published magazine POKUAA. After her strong learning experiences with the Danish artist/fashion designer Henrik Vibskov (2006-07)  she has been recognized by  the V&A Museum London, featured in their show publication "Black Style" (2007) She examines political, historical, cultural and socio-economic context of contemporary Ghana. Meet Mamudu Samuel, a Ballpen artist from Nigeria who uses pen and paper as his main media. He is a level 400 student of architecture at Federal University of Technology Akure. He create Ballpen photo realism which is recreating a reference photo and making sure he brings about enough detail of the photo in his art. His inspiration stems from many sources. Meet Edwin "Pencil" Gyamfi. A portrait painter from Ghana, West Africa. He creates mostly portraits and his targets are mostly celebrities in Ghana hence the nickname Celebrity Painter. Apart from creating portraits, Edwin is a digital artists who creates digital designs for his clients. He has created many album artworks for many musicians in Ghana and also posters for other major events in Ghana. Meet Alex Peter, one of the most impressive artists who has caught the attention of many people on social media. He is a Nigerian. He discovered his love for art at a very young age and he kept developing his talent as his passion for art grew bigger. He creates hyper-realistic artworks and the method he uses to create the artworks is what baffles many. He uses razor blade on wood and burner a method known as Pyrography. He uses razor blade to draw on burnt wood, etching the burnt surface out piece by piece and he ends up highlighting the subject of interest. He begins by first sketching his subject on a flat wood surface before burning it with a blow lamp before he starts scrapping it. Meet Silas Onoja, a hyper-realistic painter based in Abuja, Nigeria. Silas works are jaw dropping and when you view his artworks, you might mistake them for an actual picture. That is how talented he is and his works have really caught attention on all social media platforms. According to his interview with blackartists.org, Silas discovered his love for art as a child. He used to draw funny cartoons and pictures but fully decided to pursue art professionally in 2016 after graduating with a national diploma from the Polytechnic. Artists Profile: Lynette Yiadom-Boakye

Lynette Yiadom-Boakye is a painter and a writer of Ghanaian descent. She was born in London, England and she currently resides and works there. Lynettes parents are originally from Ghana and after arriving in UK they worked as nurses for the National Health Service. She attended Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduated from Falmouth College of Art in the year 2000 and completed her Masters in Art degree at The Royal Academy Schools in 2003. Her paintings are predominantly figurative with raw and muted colors. With her expressive representations of the human figure, the artist examines the formal mechanisms of the medium of painting and reveals political and psychological dimensions in her works, which focus on fictional characters who exist beyond our world or in a different time and in an unknown location.
